“” on Psychology–Viewer Discretion Advised

November 27, 2012

Don’t say I didn’t warn you, but ignore the profanity if you must and you might find yourself snickering, nodding your head…or both.

But like any science that makes its way into the pop culture, a lot of the “common sense” statements we hear every day are so wrong that they border on raving idiocy. Such as...

Not really sure if the title should contain a link, but hit the link in the article and it will get you to the right place…Enjoy.

  1. This is Bullshit:

    “Why it is Bullshit:
Studies show cult members are just as intelligent, if not more so, than the general public. And around 95 percent of cult members are perfectly sane (when they join up, anyway), with no history at all of real psychological problems. They’re not stupid, and they’re not crazy.”

The ‘general public’ is unintelligent. The difference is cult members are at least aware they are members of a cult. The fingers pointers are dumb enough to believe they are unaffected. Then there are the rest of us who are on the outside looking in at the zoo critters while the shrinks analyze us. ‘Perfectly sane’ my ass.
    Good find, Aaron.

    • I can understand why you might feel that way. Actually my first response was very similar, but after thinking about it I’m willing to consider their point of view.

As you know, I think, I wrote an article on the cult like behavior of progressives so I really had to think about it. Intelligence is not necessarily a vaccine against going with the flow or accepting a false premise and than building the rest of one’s belief system on that false premise.

Frankly, it’s what makes some progressives so dangerous, the combination of intelligence and fanaticism in pursuit of an illusory goal.

Thanks for your a bit bogged down in responding on another thread and it took me a lot longer than I had anticipated.

  2. Indeed, and memorized the ‘cult’ article for my use in current debates elsewhere. We seem to be fully evolved into cult membership in this country. Or in my case, since I’m not, I’m left out on the fringe.
Does this background seem awfully WHITE to you? Or is it just my screen? I need to change that, it’s just to damn plain. I think JoL misses you.

    • Well, I’m glad the cult article spoke to you, I hope you are using it in ways in which I would approve…:)

Background? Which screen are you using to comment?

I’d say I am easily missed, but that doesn’t really sound right..I don’t think.

Got a libertarian article for you…if I can find it. Bottom line…”Brain wise” or basic personality, can’t remember which, liberals are the most feminine and………libertarians actually are colder and less emotional than conservatives which put them at the other extreme. Just thought you might be interested.
